Candle Care & FAQs
A few simple rituals to keep your Lije candle burning beautifully, from first light to last.

Trim before every light.
Before each lighting, with the candle cool and unlit, trim your cotton wick to 6 mm (¼ inch) and remove any wick trimmings or debris from the wax.

Always let it melt evenly.
With every burn, let the wax melt close to the edges to help prevent tunnelling. Never burn for longer than four hours.

Keep your candle looking like new.
Once your candle is extinguished and completely cool, gently wipe the inside of the glass above the wax with a soft microfibre cloth or an unscented, alcohol-free baby wipe. It’s a simple way to keep the glass clean and your candle looking fresh as it burns down. Keep moisture away from the wax and wick, and let the glass dry fully before relighting.
A few essentials for every burn.
Choose a safe spot.
Use a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts. Keep at least 30 cm (12 inches) from flammable items and 8 cm (3 inches) between lit candles.
Stay close.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
Let it cool.
Never touch or move hot glass or liquid wax. Let the wax and vessel cool completely between burns.
Know when to stop.
Burn for no more than four hours at a time, and stop using your candle when 13 mm (½ inch) of wax remains.
When you’re ready to put it out.
Snuff or gently blow out the flame. Never use water. Check that the wick has stopped glowing, and let the vessel cool before moving it.
Always follow your candle’s safety label. More candle safety guidance
Frequently asked questions
What is a Lije candle made from?
Our wax is 100% Canadian grass-fed tallow. We use cotton wicks and, in our scented candles, phthalate- and paraben-free fragrance. Our wax contains no soy, paraffin or petroleum-based waxes.
Do you have an unscented candle?
Yes. Bare has no added fragrance. Because tallow is a natural material, unscented does not necessarily mean entirely odourless.
Where are the candles made?
Each candle is made to order and hand-poured in Toronto, Canada. Our materials are sourced through Canadian businesses.
What size are the candles, and which vessels can I choose?
Our candles contain 8 oz (227 g) and are available in clear or amber glass. Select your vessel on the product page.
When will my order ship?
Our candles are made to order. If you need yours for a particular date, please contact us before ordering to confirm timing.
How much is shipping?
Check the shipping options and charges shown at checkout for your delivery address before completing your order. For a shipping question, get in touch.
How long should I burn my candle?
Follow the safety label and do not burn for longer than four hours at a time. Always stay nearby, keep the wick trimmed, and let the vessel cool completely between uses.
